Samsung Galaxy S III reaches FCC without LTE support

updated 10:33 am EDT, Tue May 15, 2012

FTC posting shows global release version of Galaxy S III

The FCC has posted a filing for the Samsung Galaxy S III without LTE onboard. The tested handset seems to be the global release version, which is limited to HSPA+ and EDGE, with the filing more a formality for handset imports to the US before the LTE variant is released.

The battery is reconfirmed on the regulatory label at 2,100mAh, showing that the previously seen 10 hours of battery life under load will not change before its release.

The S III represents Samsung's latest Galaxy-branded Android handset, bringing a quad-core Exynos processor and a 4.8-inch AMOLED display with 1280x720 resolution. Many of the features are similar to the Galaxy Nexus, however the company has added a variety of software enhancements such as eye tracking and "S Voice" speech recognition software that mimics Apple's Siri service.

Europeans will receive the handset from May 29, with a US and Canada release date soon afterward. The LTE version has been said to be making an appearance later in the year, but with no firm dates confirmed.
