Bloomberg backs talk of Retina MacBook Pros at WWDC

updated 07:52 pm EDT, Mon May 14, 2012

Rumored specs get backup from Bloomberg

Recent rumors of a refresh in Apple's MacBook Pro line received a bit of support today, with Bloomberg now reporting that the new line is indeed on its way. Bloomberg has the new line of MacBooks arriving in June, sporting many of the features earlier rumors have suggested.

Citing unnamed sources, the report says that the new Macbook Pros will feature Retina Displays like those found in the iPad and iPhone, though it is unclear what exactly would constitute a Retina Display on a Mac, as the term is not strictly defined across devices. The new MacBooks are said to feature solid-state drives that will lower startup time and extend battery life. Bloomberg's sources also claim that the new MacBook Pros will run on Intel's new Ivy Bridge line of processors, slimming the notebooks down past their current .95-inch thickness.

The new models are said to make their first appearance on June 11, at Apple's annual developers conference. Also expected is the debut of the new version of OS X, Mountain Lion, which is believed to include more features taken from iOS. Mountain Lion is expected to allow users to send text messages from a Mac to an iPhone, and to more closely integrate Apple's iCloud storage system.

Unconfirmed but related reports from earlier today had suppliers preparing for MacBook Airs featuring a USB 3.0 port.
