RadioShack knocks $50 off iPhone 4, iPhone 4S

updated 09:28 pm EDT, Thu May 10, 2012

RadioShack follows Targets lead, discounts iPhones

Yesterday, RadioShack's Twitter feed carried word of a new discount on the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S. The retailer will, for a limited time, let customers save $50 instantly on the two most recent models of iPhone. The discount follows a similar move by Target. Earlier this week, Target announced it would discount the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S by $50 with a two-year contract.

The discount is valid for across all carriers until June 30. As the iPhone is unavailable for purchase on RadioShack's website, customers can only take advantage of the discount in stores. This is the second time in six months that RadioShack has discounted the iPhone 4 and 4S, though the previous discount was exclusive to customers activating a unit on AT&T and was for $30.

It is somewhat unusual for this sort of discount to be applied to a phone that isn't nearing the end of its product life cycle, but the move by RadioShack may be a move to attract customers from competitors. It's also possible that the retailer may be trying to take advantage of the popular phone's arrival on a number of smaller regional carriers.
