HP takes wraps off Spectre XT ultrabook in Shanghai

updated 10:58 am EDT, Wed May 9, 2012

HP Spectre XT is an SSD-only premium ultrabook with Core i5

Along with a number of other notebook debuts at an event in Shanghai, HP has unveiled the Spectre XT ultrabook. The high-style device spots a 13.3-inch, 720p, LED backlit screen and comes with Intel's Core i5 processor and 4GB of RAM. The ultrabook weighs 3.07lbs and is just 14.5mm thick, while wrapped in an all-alloy body.

These numbers are achieved partly thanks to the built-in SSD drives, either in 128GB or 256GB capacities. Battery life is also helped out by this, rated at up to eight hours.

Beats audio is built-in, with four speakers. They sit between the hinges, and it looks like they may tilt towards the user once the ultrabook is opened.

Connections include one USB 3.0, one HDMI and one Ethernet port, with a microSD memory card slot also present. Preloaded software includes Adobe Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements, along with Windows 7 Home Premium. Owners will get a one-year subscription to Absolute Data Protect and a dedicated Concierge phone line.

The Spectre XT will ship on June 8, with prices starting at $1,000.
