Android 4.0 tablet to undercut Kindle Fire

A budget-level seven-inch tablet from Chinese device maker Ainol has appeared for order online. The Novo7 Aurora II, due to launch later in May, represents perhaps the most ambitious offering from the Chinese company to date, at a price point that could make the device competitive with Amazon's Kindle Fire.

The Novo 7 Aurora II ships with a dual-core, 1.5GHz Cortex-A9 processor and a gigabyte of RAM. The five-point touchscreen displays at 1024x600, and the device contains eight gigabytes of storage standard, expandable by microSD up to 16GB. The device, which will run Android 4.0, is listed at $190.

Ainol previously made headlines upon the announcement of the original Novo7, a seven-inch tablet that also ran Android 4.0 and was priced at $120. Reviews of the tablet, though, found that its low price did not make up for the sluggish performance of its MIPS processor. [via GizmoCrave]
