Walmart cuts prices on AT&T-activated iPhones

updated 02:30 am EDT, Fri May 4, 2012

Savings up to $74 are possible

At least one Walmart store has slashed prices on its AT&T iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S prices without prior associate notice. The 8GB iPhone 4 now sells for $34 with a two-year contract, down from Walmart's already-discounted $88 price. The 16GB iPhone 4S, in either white or black, is now offered with the same contract for $114, down from the $188 original store price. The Verizon iPhone models are not affected by the price cut, reports Cult of Mac, and its not yet clear if the sale is fully nationwide.

Walmart has dropped prices on iPhones before, generally to cut inventory in advance of a new model. Last year, the corporate retailer cut prices on the iPhone 4 very similarly in June, and then again just one month ahead of the iPhone 4S launch. Though possible, there is little current speculation that Apple would release another iPhone model in late spring or early summer.

Walmart's prices for the AT&T-locked iPhones are generally set by the retail chain itself rather than the carrier, and isolated price drops that only affect a certain store or small area are unusual. [via Cult of Mac]

    do your research

Although Walllyworlds "managers" can grant one time/case by case price reductions for openbox/damaged/clearance items, they can NOT and will NOT (unless they wanna get fired) reduce the price of a currently stocked item, especially by more than 50%, without specific directions from the big guys up@ the home office...... which would therefore affect all stores simultaneously, or at least all of them in a specific region/district/market area.

This would require independant thinking and/or decision making, something which these people are neither paid for or expected to do.........

Geesh, you guys @macnn act as if you have never even been in a wallyworld store.......you REALLY need to get out more :)

    I note with interest

that the later story (confirmed by several sources) completely contradicts your alleged "knowledge."

As for me, I avoid Walmart like the plague, since I care about the quality of the community I live in.
