Nikon confirms lockup problem with D4 and D800 cameras

updated 08:40 am EDT, Fri May 4, 2012

Company recommends temporary fix pending real solution

Less than two weeks after Nikon acknowledged problems with a batch of camera batteries, the company has confirmed that some D4 and D800 cameras also face reliability issues. Some users have reported that the DSLRs may lock up during usage, interrupting shooting sessions and forcing users to reset the camera by removing and reinserting the battery.

"Nikon has received reports of a small number of D4/D800 users who are experiencing 'locking up' issues, where the camera becomes unresponsive until the battery is removed and reinserted," Nikon said in a statement posted by PDN. "Nikon is investigating a permanent solution to this issue and will update users accordingly."

The company recommends a temporary fix, which requires the 'Highlights' and 'RGB Histogram' display options to be disabled within the 'Playback' menu.

Despite the temporary solution, Nikon has yet to fully detail the cause of the problems or provide a timeline for releasing a permanent fix. [via Nikon Rumors]
