Company calls on series writers and creators to assist

Amazon's Studios division has announced plans to develop original comedy and children's series. The company is currently calling on series creators and writers to submit their proposals for the streaming video programming, which will be distributed through Amazon Instant Video.

"In the course of developing movies, we’ve heard a lot of interest from content creators who want to develop original series in the comedy and children’s genres," said Amazon Studios director Roy Price.

The company will explore three promising ideas each month, eventually choosing one idea for each category after the projects are tested for viability with an audience. If the company deems any of the submissions to be worthy of developing into a full-budget series, the creator will be rewarded with a $55,000 payment and royalties for related merchandise.

The announcement marks further expansion into the realm of content creation, alongside a promotional video contest that provides cash rewards for short segment representing a full series.
