RIM culprit behind Australian 'wake up' Apple store protest

updated 02:45 am EDT, Tue May 1, 2012

Reveal on May 7 for AU market

Previously believed to be Samsung, BlackBerry manufacturer Research in Motion admitted responsibility for the paid flashmob outside a Sydney Apple store. The faux mob was a phase in a viral marketing program for the upcoming BlackBerry 10 OS.

The campaign's backers were wearing the same black attire, holding "Wake up" signs. The protesters picketed a news station, and the aforementioned Apple store. At the time, the intention of the protesters was unclear. Sydney Harbor saw a speedboat with the logo, and a Bondi Beach sports club had a pool bottom adorned with the slogan and artwork.

In conjunction with RIM's confession, a website has been launched counting down the time to the BlackBerry 10 launch. RIM states that a further announcement will take place on May 7 that the company hopes will instigate conversation in what being in business means to Australians. The annual RIM BlackBerry World conference kicks off in Orlando, FL on May 1 at 9 a.m. ET.

    Well, well, well

Looks like all the Samsung haters be eating crow. The hate is so prevalent, they refuse to believe the truth even when it's told to them straight in the face.

Even considering the possibility that Samsung was not involved, never crossed the tainted iMinds.
    Haters will be haters.

    Okay Electronista/MacNN,

Why should we believe you now?

Who @ RIM specifically admitted it? You cite no references, names, conversations, anything. This article is just as worthless as your Samsung accusation.

    Really pretty funny

RIMs two CEOs went to sleep for the better part of a decade and, as a result, completely destroyed their company. I wonder who really needs to wake up.
