Google enhances Gmail experience with auto translate, more

Google has just detailed its Automatic Message Translation feature for its Gmail service, having graduated it from the beta Gmail Labs. The feature was around in the Labs section since 2009, and now gives users the option to automatically translate e-mails into their native language. The feature is similar to that of Google Chrome when visiting a page that's written in a foreign language.

The feature will take a few days to reach all Gmail users, Google notes. Users can translate the message by clicking a dedicated Translate message button in the header. An Always Translate button will automatically perform the function for all future messages in that language, or users can click on 'Turn off for: [language]' button.

Two other changes were also made on Tuesday, including Title Tweaks that makess the number of new e-mails more visible and a Smart Mute button that gives users an option to take new messages in an e-mail thread out of the inbox.

Some labs are being retired however, including Old Snakey, Mail Goggles, Mouse Gestures, Hide Unread Counts, Move Icon Column, Inbox Preview, Custom Date Formats and the SMS in Chat gadget.
