Sirius app update drops rewind feature for some stations

updated 07:05 pm EDT, Mon April 30, 2012

Licensing rights cut out beloved feature

The newest update for SiriusXM's iOS and Android app has seen the removal of a very popular feature due to conflicts over licensing rights. As of Version 2.0.2 of the iOS app, SiriusXM has confirmed that users no longer have the ability to rewind five hours on all stations. Sirius cited contract complications involving the owners of the channels that lost the rewind feature, but gave no further details as to when, if ever, the feature might be available on these channels again.

With Version 2.0.1 of the update, users believed that the feature loss was a result of a programming glitch, as the update also saw network errors and missing buttons in the app. Version 2.0.2, though, addressed some bugs while leaving the inability to rewind on some stations intact. In a subsequent tweet on the topic, Sirius confirmed that the feature has been removed from some channels.

The five-hour rewind feature is still available for all channels on satellite tuners, despite its limitations on handhelds. Today's update for the Android Sirius app brought the limited rewind feature to Google's mobile OS for the first time. [via CNet]
