Cyanogenmod 9 for Tegra 3-powered HTC One X out now

updated 06:55 am EDT, Mon April 30, 2012

Cyanogenmod 9 variant out for quad-core HTC One X

A variant of the Cyanogenmod 9 for the NVIDIA Tegra 3-powered quad-core variant of the HTC One X has been released. The interface offers users a much more stock Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) experience with HTC's Sense 4.0 UI all but swept away. In its place, the Cyanogenmod 9 variant will give the casual observer the impression that the HTC One X has been morphed into a Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hacker TripNRaVeR of the TripNDroid Mobile Engineering team has released the particular build in question, and although using the open-source Cyanogenmod 9 files, the release is not 'officially sanctioned' by the Cyanogenmod 9 group. Most functions of a user's HTC One X will work, although the camera and mobile Wi-Fi hotspot functions are not currently enabled.

One notable revision the Cyanogenmod 9 build brings for HTC One X users is that it remaps the device's hardware buttons. The multitasking button is reworked to initiate the 'menu' function, while the multitasking menu is made available by holding down the home button.

As with all custom ROM installations, users are advised to exercise caution when rooting their device and attempting to flash the ROM. The current variant of Cyanogenmod 9 remains a work in progress. It also will not work on the dual-core Snapdragon S4 version of the HTC One X. [via The Verge]
