Samsung AllShare Cast media hub shows up at FCC

updated 02:20 pm EDT, Wed April 25, 2012

Samsung readies to ship AllShare Cast Hub

Once again, the FCC has offered a look at an upcoming piece of hardware, this time from Samsung. Called AllShare Cast Hub, it sports an HDMI connection and dual-band Wi-Fi radios, for what we assume is sharing media in a user's home. It may thus be similar to the likes of HTC's Media Link HD, which lets users stream content from smartphones to their TVs.

The hub will also likely provide Internet connections to TVs that lack them. Whether it's compatible with brands other than Samsung's isn't clear, but this is likely given use of DLNA. Samsung's Smart TVs are already AllShare-compatible, letting users share content from their computer, tablets, and smartphones on the big screen.

The company showed off a Smart Media Hub late last year that had similar functionality but also included a CD/DVD burner.

When the device launches or what it will cost remains to be seen. It should also be noted that not all FCC submissions make it to the market, thought it's usually a strong indicator that a product is nearing release. [via Engadget]
