Samsung Galaxy S III, i9300 names leaked together in Kies

updated 04:10 pm EDT, Wed April 25, 2012

Samsung Kies app makes clear Galaxy S III link

A sighting in Samsung's own Kies app may have cemented the GT-i9300's status as the Galaxy S III ahead of its release. As caught by SamMobile, the syncing software shows two "Galaxy S3" models, both using the i9300 name. One of them is badged as the i9300T, likely a reference to support for frequencies at a different carrier or country.

The two are using a Galaxy Note image, although that's most likely a placeholder until Samsung is ready to reveal the hardware's real design. Current hardware may be in a disguise to mask its real appearance.

Samsung could still change the public name, but firmware showing a "Galaxy S" boot ID and simply expectations would make the Galaxy S III name more likely than not. As the i9300, it could have a 4.6- to 4.7-inch AMOLED screen, a quad-core Exynos 4412 chip, and a new version of TouchWiz to go with Android 4.0. Full details are expected to come with Samsung's special event on May 3.
