ASUS' upcoming UX21A, UX31A Zenbook Primes spotted

ASUS Zenbook Primes get aluminum construction

The upcoming ASUS Zenbook UX21A and UX31A ultrabooks may join a new Zenbook Prime family and sport all-aluminum bodies, Engadget learned. The bodies would have the familiar design of the current UX21 and UX31. Technical upgrades, however, would include 1080p matte IPS panels and upgraded processors.

The latter are believed to include Intel's yet-to-be-announced, next-generation low-voltage Ivy Bridge processors, with the top offering believed to be a 2GHz Core i7-3667U. Photos reveal that the ultrabooks will get micro HDMI and mini DisplayPort connections, two USB ports, and a microSDHC card slot in the larger of the two.

The ASUS staff also reportedly said "anything is possible" when it comes to the graphics options in the ultrabooks, not ruling out NVIDIA's Kepler-based GeForce chips.

The 11.6-inch UX21A and 13.3-inch UX31A would also likely get standard 1366x768 display in the UX21A and 1600x900 screen in the UX31A.

As for availability, the notebooks are apparently awaiting the green light from Intel for a worldwide debut. They should ship to Taiwan in June, however, with pricing close to that of the current-gen notebooks.
