updated 01:20 am EDT, Tue April 24, 2012

Upgrade will be called 'Flyme 1.0' in China

Meizu-branded MX and M9 smartphones will receive Android 4.0 in the form of the Flyme OS 1.0 upgrade later this year. The upgrade will be available by way of over-the-air push or by a direct firmware update from Meizu's website in June.

Alongside Android 4.0 stability and performance upgrades, the Flyme 1.0 upgrade brings with it backup and synchronization, lost phone locating, cloud services, and personal file storage. In mainland China, Meizu's online music streaming application will upgrade to an unspecified lossless format.

The Meizu M9 was released in February 2011, is available for 1699 Chinese Yuan ($269), and sports a 3.5-inch 960x640 display, a 1GHz cpu, and a 5MP rear camera. The Meizu MX retails for 2399 Chinese Yuan ($380) and boasts a dual-core A9 processor, a four-inch 229 PPI display, and a 8MP rear camera. A quad-core Meizu MX was announced earlier this month for release in June.
