MSI ships GT60, GT70 gaming notebooks

updated 03:05 pm EDT, Mon April 23, 2012

MSI GT60, GT70 gaming notebooks start at $1,500

MSI has begun US-based shipping for the gaming-oriented GT60 and GT70 notebooks that were introduced at CeBIT at the start of March. Other than size, both have nearly identical hardware components, running Intel's new Ivy Bridge-based 2.3GHz Core i7-3610QM and paired with NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 670M for graphics. The backlit keyboards come from gaming peripheral maker SteelSeries.

The GT70 gets a 17.3-inch, 1080p screen, and base models have 12GB of RAM. Users can opt for up to 16GB of RAM and specify a Blu-ray burner. A host of storage options is on offer, including two 64GB SSDs and a 750GB, 7,200RPM hard drive at the same time. Base models get the larger but slower spinning hard drive alone. These four models weigh 8.6lbs.

The 15.6-inch GT60 also has a 1080p screen and NVIDIA's GeForce GT 670M. It can only be had with a pair of 500GB, 7,200RPM hard drives. It weighs 7.7lbs in stock trim.

All five models get Killer Game Networking Wi-Fi radios. Two Dynaudio speakers and a subwoofer are rated for THX Surround Sound.

The range starts at $1,500 and ranges up to $2,000.
