AMD ships Trinity, Brazos 2.0 notebook chips

updated 10:30 am EDT, Fri April 20, 2012

AMD delivers next-gen Fusion mobile processors

AMD sent word late Thursday that it was already shipping processors based on the Trinity and Brazos 2.0 platforms. The A-series parts based on Trinity theoretically double the performance for the same amount of energy while also modernizing the in-chip graphics. As before, the chips are expected to focus mostly on dual-core A6 and quad-core A8 parts.

Brazos 2.0 is intended for either entry-level notebooks or crossover ultraportables like the HP dm1. It both ups the performance and battery life while maintaining the small footprint.

AMD wouldn't give a full customer list, but it promised a worldwide release "soon." HP is known to be a main customer and will have some versions of the Pavilion G4 outfitted with the A6.

The Trinity line is shipping almost exactly in sync with Intel's Ivy Bridge, which promises its own significant leap in performance for typical notebooks.
