Windows 8 Gesture support added to Touchpad Free

updated 01:30 am EDT, Thu April 19, 2012

Touchpad app available from Windows Marketplace

Windows Phone marketplace application Touchpad Free and its paid counterpart by Nullar Game Studio have been upgraded. The prior version turned a Windows Phone into a wireless but simple two-button trackpad; the new v2.8.0 adds two-finger scroll and Windows 8 gesture support.

Both the client and server packages have been updated to support the new Windows 8 Consumer Preview. Following server installation, firewall configuration and Windows Phone app install, the pair combine to communicate over an existing Wi-Fi network to allow the touch-sensitive screen on the Windows phone to send mouse events to a desktop or laptop. As a unique feature, if a user connects a windows phone to IP address 255.255.255.255, then every Windows computer on the same network subnet with the server installed will be controlled simultaneously.

Similar applications exist for iOS, such as the free Logitech TouchMouse or Remote Mouse by Zen Rong. Both of these applications use a similar client/server model for mouse event transfer.
