Shazam teams with ITV Commercial to audio tag ads

Shazam For TV will load up advertiser web pages

A new app called Shazam For TV will allow users of smartphones to quickly find the website of a company advertising a product on their TV in the UK. A result of a team-up with UK-based ITV Commercial, the app will listen to the ad rather than a song, as the app's beginnings were rooted, and then open a website associated with the tune. The app is experimental in nature, with its functionality thus far relegated to partnerships with individual shows and hand-picked advertisers.

There is room for expansion, however, as ITV sold the equivalent of $2.4 billion in advertising in 2011 for its six linear channels and ITV Player streaming service. Shazam thinks the numbers are impressive, as 0.3 percent used the app, which is three times higher than the average online click-through. What's more, 27 percent of those who used the app shopped, downloaded the song in the ad, or viewed more content.

ITV isn't expanding this opportunity to other channels and cable providers. [via em>PaidContent]
