HTC One S gets early sale option

T-Mobile on Wednesdya officially launched the HTC One S. The middle tier of HTC's reborn Android line is due April 25 and will cost $200 on a two-year contract, or $600 contract-free. The phone's signature durable-yet-soft micro arc oxidation will be available on at least one model, which T-Mobile badges as Gradient Blue.

Apart from badging, the T-Mobile edition of the One S will mostly focus on supporting the carrier's 42Mbps HSPA+ network and adding carrier-specific apps.

All versions center on a 4.3-inch, 540x960 AMOLED display that helps keep the phone down to its 0.31-inch thickness. It shares the eight-megapixel camera of its larger One X cousin, but drops to a VGA front camera. It shares the same dual-core, 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 as the LTE-equipped One X and Evo 4G LTE, and will often be as fast. Both likewise share Android 4.0 and HTC's Sense 4.0 interface layer.

No other carrier plans are known for direct equivalents in the One line, although Verizon's upcoming Incredible 4G may be a slightly downclocked version of the One S.
