Samsung at last gets to GSIII update event

Samsung ended months of speculation with an invitation to a special event on May 3. Asking fans to "come and meet the next Galaxy," a believed reference to the expected Galaxy S III, it plans to both have an open house at the Earls Court Exhibition Centre in London as well as to livestream the event. Few clues if any are available as to the hardware, with hints limited to blue and white 'droplets' with a brushed metal texture.

Few details, if any, are known about what the Galaxy S III entails. Other than its likely including Android 4.0, the phone has seen only one possible live shot and numerous faked press renders. Most expect it to represent a large jump in performance through either a quad-core Exynos 4412 or the 2GHz, dual-core Exynos 5250, and to likely have an upgraded screen.

The hardware could be Samsung's most important in its history. The Galaxy S II is Samsung's most successful smartphone to date, and the sequel phone is coming later than usual in what many see as an attempt to bring the announcement closer to real shipments. It's often considered Samsung's direct equivalent to the iPhone and may be a test as to whether the company can keep up its momentum or had just enjoyed a brief run.

Unlike previous years, Samsung is thought to consider the US release more important and might have the S III on shelves earlier than the fall. Apple's own release timing for the 2012 iPhone update is still an unknown and might not necessarily repeat the October timeframe for the iPhone 4S.

I love that this gets down votes while the article itself gets no excited responses, thereby proving it's a snoozefest.

Even Apple's stupid education event a few months back drew loads of attention from drooling idiots and even from the general media. A new Galaxy announcement? Nobody cares and Google fangirls are too busy going to pro-Apple sites and whining to kick up any kind of excitement here.
