Blackmagic shows new gear with Thunderbolt ports

Blackmagic Design at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show outed three new products for professional video editors. The Universal Videohub Editing Interface has a Thunderbolt interface with four ports and four reference signal inputs. It plugs into the company's Universal Videohub 72 and 288 models.

The card-based design lets users create their own router by adding interface cards to suit their needs. These may be BNC SDI, optical fiber SDI, and Thunderbolt. It's compatible with Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Premiere Pro CS6, Avid Media Composer 6, Adobe After Effects CS6, Adobe Photoshop CS6, and others. It will be priced at $1,195 when it ships in the summer.

The HyperDeck Studio Pro is a new SSD recorder model that adds four channels of 3Gbps SDI inputs and outputs along with an integrated Thunderbolt interface. There are also HDMI and analog ports for inputs and outputs as well as XLR connectors for audio and timecodes. These allow for 4K playback from a single SSD disk when using Apple's ProRes video compression.

Users interface with the deck with a VTR-style design that gets function buttons, a jog wheel for jog and shuttle, and an external RS-422 control. It gets a high-res LCD screen for key data.

The broadcast deck will carry a $1,995 price tag when it launches in July.

Lastly, the new UltraStudio Express lets users capture and play back on-location audio and video. It gets 3Gbps SDI, HDMI, and analog connections with Thunderbolt present as well. It can be powered by a connected computer and supports up to 1080p60 video quality. A breakout cable has RCA connections, while another has BNC and XLR connections in addition to genlock and RS422 deck control. It ships this spring for $495.
