Valve looks to hire hardware engineer

Valve has taken to Twitter to announce that it is looking to hire electrical engineers. Aligning with a recent rumor that the software company is looking to develop a gaming console, the posting seeks to entice potential applicants with ambitions to help Valve 'invent whole new gaming experiences.' The successful applicant or applicants will need experience and knowledge of 'ARM and x86 system design'.

The posting also reveals that the job will require the development of 'hardware, design, prototyping, testing and production across a wide range of platforms.' The original rumor suggested that Valve was working on a console that would comprise standard PC hardware an utilize a Core i7 processor, 8GB of RAM and use an NVIDA GPU. The supposed console would deliver games through Valve's popular Steam platform, but would also allow users to source their gaming content from EA's Origin among other sources.

Valve's marketing designer, Doug Lombardi countered the rumors of a Valve gaming console, saying that the company had no near-term plans to bring such a device to market. However, he would not rule out the possibility that Valve might introduce a console in the future. Although best known for its software, Valve has been known to experiment with hardware purely for research.
