Samsung says Windows Phone 8 devices due late 2012

Samsung to ship WP 8 phones to Taiwan in October?

Samsung won't launch more Windows Phone 7.5 handsets, instead opting to release Windows 8 handsets instead, Taiwan's ePrice reported this week. The first such devices won't reach the market until October of this year at the earliest, however. This lines up with an earlier report that had the electronics maker bringing out three Windows Phone smartphones this year, though one of them was said to have Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh onboard.

The latest news relates to the Taiwanese market, however, suggesting that Windows Phone 7.5 handset won't make it to stores there.

Samsung Taiwan believes Windows Phone 7 and 7.5 aren't suitable for high-end devices that it's planning to release. Of course, it's cautious on whether or not Microsoft will actually release the OS by then, but its commitment is a strong indication the OS will be released by then.

Technical details and specs on the actual handsets weren't revealed, however.

Samsung currently sells two Windows Phone handsets, including the Focus S (shown above) and the Omnia W, which goes under the Focus Flash name in the US.
