Router and adapter extend home networks
Buffalo Technology is entering the Powerline-based broadband extension accessory markets later this year with the Airstation Nfinity PL-05H adapter and the WPL-05G300 router and wireless access point. The Powerline system can be used to extend a broadband network by transmitting data over household electrical wiring, allowing any room in a home to be used as an access point where a wireless network can be created. The new products are also faster than previous Powerline versions.
The new accessories utilize next-generation chips to deliver up to 500Mbps speeds, up to 1.89 times faster than previous products. The increased speed makes Powerline a viable technology for even very demanding household uses, such as streaming movies. The extra bandwidth also makes it easier for multiple devices to use the internet simultaneously.
The router and wireless access point makes it easy to bridge a wireless network for mobile devices throughout the house so there is no chance of losing signal as users move from one level or room to another. It also provides an Ethernet plug in for wired computers. Pricing for the accessories, which will be arriving in stories later this year, has not yet been announced.
