updated 08:05 pm EDT, Thu April 12, 2012

US availability follows Japan launch

As promised, Olympus has begun shipping its first OM-D camera in the US and other markets. The E-M5, a mirrorless camera that takes advantage of the Micro Four Thirds interchangeable lens system, initially arrived late last month, however the first run was limited to Japan.

The E-M5 features a 16-megapixel CMOS censor that is said to be capable of 9fps continuous shooting, while a five-axis stabilization system is designed to improve shake reduction. Other features include a rugged case resistant to dust and splashes, along with a three-inch OLED touchscreen.

The EM-5 is said to be available in the US, Canada, Germany and the UK. Amazon is currently offering the black body only for $999 in the US, while the 12-50mm lens kit brings the price up to $1,299. Other options include a silver body and 14-45mm lens kit. [via 4/3Rumors]
