Raspberry Pi pre-orders get word of imminent shipment

Raspberry Pi expected in customer hands in days

Raspberry Pi customers have started to receive e-mails alerting them to the imminent shipment of the repeatedly delayed home theatre hobbyists' micro-PC. However, while this is good news for customers eager to get their hands on the sold out Model B version of the device, some users have reported difficulties using their e-mailed voucher codes. Apparently, the weight of demand of customers rushing to complete their order is causing the website server to crash.

E-mailed voucher codes are being distributed in the order in which they were received so as to stagger customer arrival on the order RS Components website. The problem on the website has reportedly been caused by customers who are overly eager to complete their transaction who have not received their e-mailed voucher code jumping on the site preemptively.

The devices have now received CE certification and should be in users' hands over the course of the next week. While the Model B ($35) variant is sold out of its pre-order stock, a cheaper Model A ($25) version is yet to go into production, but it loses two USB ports and Ethernet capability. [Thanks Malcolm]
