Windows Phone 8/Apollo makes appearance in social app

Windows Phone 8 spotted in internal testing

Windows Phone 8 may be already running on some smartphones, if the latest report from WPCentral proves true. It includes mention of Apollo, or build 8.0.9662.0, in the social networking app I'm a WP7. The app's developer said the device ID is difficult to fake, though it is running through an emulator. The ID also originated from the Pacific coast, making it more likely to be Microsoft's Bellevue, Washington headquarters or a San Francisco Bay Area office.

Other so-called reliable sources also maintained that Microsoft began internal testing of the OS as of March 30, supporting ideas that the OS would now be in active use.

At the start of last month, Microsoft was rumored to be testing a dual-core, 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 phone paired with Windows Phone 8.

The latest mobile OS from Microsoft is expected to be officially debuted this summer and released to end users later in 2012. It should bring dual-core processor support, greater display resolution support, more official NFC support, and more overall features.
