YouTube creators prep Zeen for finding, making magazines

Zeen to offer two-way magazine making

YouTube's main founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen have been developing a service that could both create and help read "beautiful magazines." Zeen currently has very few details, but its name is a play on the concept of a personal "zine" and suggests a way of aggregating news and other articles that can be shared with others. Social sharing will be a key ingredient, as both the privacy policy and offers to link accounts on Facebook or Twitter make it clear that this will be a regular feature.

Numerous questions still remain as to how Zeen will work, including the ultimate destinations. A web version is likely, but the magazine push implies that it may also be linked to tablets and possibly smartphones. The service may end up as an indirect competitor to Flipboard, Zite, and other personalized magazine apps.

Zeen has been showing the first signs of activity on its Facebook and Twitter accounts, promising more "soon." The company hasn't given a clue as to when it will launch, nor have Chen or Hurley commented on their plans. [via Fusible]
