NVIDIA renames two OEM cards, cuts RAM in half

NVIDIA has shaken up its GeForce graphics card lineup, rebranding two budget-priced OEM GT 500-series cards from the Fermi-era architecture into 600-series examples. The GT 520 will now be known as the GT 620 while the GT 510 becomes the GT 605. Other than the name change, there are some slight hardware changes, though mostly not for the better.

While both now support OpenGL 4.2 visual effects rather than 4.1, the Fermi-based cards halve the memory, now only available in 512MB or 1GB variants rather than the 1GB and 2GB options from before. Connections include VGA, DVI, and HDMI video, though the thermal envelope is higher, at 30W rather than 29 in the GT 520.

The GT 605 has the same connections though its peak thermal power remains at the same 25W of the GT 510 that it's based on.

As OEM cards, the 605 and 620 are due for pre-assembled PCs rather than upgrades. PC builders haven't been named.
