Samsung trademarks even more Galaxy device names

updated 07:45 pm EDT, Fri April 6, 2012

Names could end up on future Android phones

Samsung has filed trademark applications for three more Galaxy device with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Named in the filings were the Galaxy Lift, Galaxy Perx, and Galaxy Sire. As is often the case in its trademark applications, Samsung provided no details about the devices other than they fell under the "Mobile telephones; Smartphones" classification.

Samsung has filed trademark applications for several phones over the past few months. In January, it filed for name protection for the Joy and Fresh. In February, it added the names Awaken, Axiom, Heir, and Rite.

The latest three filings include Galaxy in the name, indicative that the phones will be Android devices; the special names are the sort that would normally be reserved for a US-specific phone, as many international models keep their names if they stay intact. Filing for trademark protection for a name is no guarantee that a device will actually enter the market carrying the name, but at least shows the general direction of the company. [via Fusible]
