Lenovo set to start pre-orders for Android 4 TVs in China

Lenovo Smart TV pre-orders start on Tuesday

Lenovo, traditionally a PC maker, will begin accepting pre-orders for its range of smart TVs in China as soon as April 10, PCWorld learned. A dedicated website has already been set up, and the flagship model will be the 55-inch K91 Android Smart TV we had a chance to check out at CES. It alone gets a 240Hz LED panel with 3D capability.

The three others in the range include the 55-inch K81 and two 42-inch models, the K81 and K71. These have 120Hz panels and normally have 3D capability, though the K71 makes do with a 2D panel. All four sport a 1080p resolution. Pricing was revealed by a Lenovo rep only for the entry-level K71, which will arrive at month's end for 6500 yuan (about $1,030).

The sets run on Android 4.0 and support games and other apps. They can also recognize mobile apps when they don't have an absolute requirement for touch. A 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor is at the heart of all the sets.

If the test launch in China proves successful, Lenovo may bring the TVs to the US and other markets. If and when it does, the sets are likely to be labeled with Idea TV branding.
