LulzSec member pleads guilty to Sony Pictures hack

LulzSec member admits to hacking Sony

The original LulzSec team was dealt a hit Thursday after member Cody Kretsinger pleaded guilty to his role in the Sony Pictures hack from last year. He agreed to accept convictions over charges of both conspiracy and "unauthorized impairment of a protected computer" in return for a deal. The admission was a reversal of an earlier not guilty plea.

The hack from last June compromised a million Sony Pictures site registrations' account details, including their coupons and music codes. LulzSec members at the time both treated it as a stunt but also as a lesson for Sony, which had just been recovering from the PlayStation Network hack that had brought down online gaming for nearly a month.

LulzSec as it originally was has been rendered inactive after wide-reaching arrests. Some have tried taking up the mantle since, but are acting mostly in name only. [via Reuters]
