Samsung moves Galaxy Tab 2 to late April, blames Android 4.0

Samsung sees 2012 tablet setback due to OS issues

Samsung on Tuesday delayed the Galaxy Tab 2 line by a month. After having missed its March target, the company told IDG that the 7.0 and 10.1 variants should first ship at the end of April, to UK residents. It didn't give an indication of when other countries would get theirs, although these were originally meant to follow later.

The delay was owing to problems getting Android 4.0 running properly on the new tablets, Samsung said. Both Galaxy Tab 2 variants are to be Samsung's first tablets using the more recent OS.

Android 4.0 upgrades have faced mounting setbacks at Samsung. Although it's currently upgrading some Galaxy S II owners, the Korean firm had to delay its Galaxy Note upgrade to sometime in the current quarter. Some believe the setback comes from conflicts between the new OS' groundwork and the extensive customizations Samsung has made for its TouchWiz interface.

While short, the setback may be a dangerous one for Samsung, which has already acknowledged that it's faring poorly in tablets. The company has been eclipsed not just by Apple but by Amazon's Kindle Fire, and currently has under six percent share, based on fall estimates. With the Galaxy Note 10.1 also a more conservative update than the new iPad, the delay could see Apple have months or more with a technical edge over Samsung in addition to its existing market share advantages.

    Samsung can't do software right

Like almost hardware maker (HP, Dell, Samsung, HTC, Sony, Motorola), they all have really bad record for software support. None of these corp have been able to offer long terms (more than 3 years) software support for their hardware. Why I should buy ICS is to blame for Samsung inability to make working drivers for their own plateform? ICS is more than a years old now, Samsung got plenty of time to make it right.

I think Google is giving up on

Android. It's created such a fragmented platform with everyone doing their own thing. Google should actually give up on Android and release it where it belongs into the open source community. I'm definitely happy that those Samsung tablets have been delayed because it gives the iPad that much more time to get a solid hold on consumers and businesses.

Take your time, Google. Apple has plenty of iPads to sell, meanwhile. The diehard Droid Lovers might not be happy, but who cares about them since they're pretty much in the minority.

    Another one

Galaxy Tab 7, 7.7, 7 Plus, Note, 10.1, Note 10.1 and now a 2. Which one is which.

Choice is good but choice for choices sake is bad.

Follow Apple (again) and make your own OS. That way you won't have to wait around for Google's annual disappointment.
