HTC Evo One seen live ahead of event

HTC Evo One unofficially photographed, tested

All doubt as to the HTC Evo One's existence was removed overnight as a new leak showed it in the flesh. Somehow getting access to an early unit, Android Life confirmed both the slightly reworked design on the front and a back with a kickstand. It remained responsive and had the same quick responsiveness, high-end 720p display, and other traits as the One X we tried in February.

Its eight-megapixel rear camera was one of the "best" tried yet and compared well to the gold standard for the industry, the iPhone 4S.

The tester warned, however, that it wasn't a revolutionary experience. Sense 4.0 had been pared back, but it wasn't exciting and still felt like earlier versions of Sense rather than the fresher Android 4.0 than rested underneath. "It just feels like HTC's same old thing," the tester said.

As with the upcoming AT&T version, Sprint's model will drop the Tegra 3 in favor of a dual-core, 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 in order to get access to 4G LTE. Most of the changes come from the uses of CDMA and EVDO for voice and 3G as well as custom Sprint apps for tools like voicemail.

Sprint and HTC will be formally unveiling the Evo One at a New York City event Wednesday evening, where Electronista expects to provide a deeper hands-on.
