Sony hints at future with Xperia Duo trademark

Filing with USPTO foretell dual-core phone

Last summer, leaks and images of a higher-end dual-core processor Sony phone, the Xperia Duo emerged. At the time, the phone was reported to be on its way for released September, but that did not happen. Recently, however Sony applied for a trademark with the USPTO for the Duo name, hinting that the smartphone could become a reality in the not to distant future.

The initial reports on the Xperia Duo had it sporting a 4.5-inch qHD screen and 1.5GB of RAM. The processor was believed to be a 1.4GHz dual-core CPU, or not quite as fast as in the Xperia ion/S but much faster than the 1GHz NovaThor chips in the Xperia P and U. The rear-facing camera was expected to be a large 12-megapixel unit.

Technology changes quickly in 9 months, so the phone, if it is forthcoming, could look significantly different. Also, as with any filing to the USPTO, submission does not necessarily equate to a finished product. [via Unwired View]
