Shazam posts big update with speed as focus

Shazam in a large 5.0 update for its iOS title (App Store) revamped the engine for its audio detection. It now claims that the app can recognize a song or audio-cued TV shows in "as little as" one second. It can start listening as soon as it's open, making sure that the sampling gets in before the opportunity passes.

Several other improvements have come into play, including a startup that's a second faster, and a lyric sync feature that's more in step with music. The overall interface is faster, and iOS 5 owners can now edit Twitter sharing messages before they go out to followers.

Using the app on a basic level requires iOS 4.3 or newer. Shazam is claiming similar performance from the Android version (Google Play).
