Mozilla gives first look at Firefox on Windows 8

updated 05:20 pm EDT, Tue April 3, 2012

Previews looks for webpages and blogs

Mozilla developers have posted their latest progress update for their efforts to create a working prototype for Firefox running on Windows 8. In it, for the first time, they have hinted at what the app could ultimately look like under the new Microsoft operating system. The team acknowledges that there is still a lot of work to do, but has said nothing altering their schedule to develop the proof of concept.

Mozilla began ramping up its development efforts for a new Firefox browser for Windows 8 in February. The intent was to create a version that resembled and worked natively with Windows 8's new Metro user interface.

The update, the third since development began, shows two screenshots of the new Firefox implementation in example page and blog form.

The Mozilla team also reports that it has made significant progress with Metro platform integration. Staff have now implemented support for opening a file, opening multiple files, and saving files in Metro. They have also linked Firefox with the Windows Search Charm, letting a user share a page viewed through Firefox with another app. [via PCWorld]

    Wait a minute?

That's not a tile, on the new "start menu", is it?

Looks more like an overgrown icon to me!

Windows 8 is not even out of beta testing and already there are mayor inconsistencies?
