Sprint restarts LG Optimus S updates to Android 2.3

updated 07:30 pm EDT, Mon April 2, 2012

Gingerbread finally arriving after 6-month delay

Sprint appears to be restarting a second round of Android 2.3 updates for LG's Optimus S handset. The carrier last summer released a Gingerbread update for the Optimus S, however the first over-the-air rollout was halted amid widespread reports of serious bugs.

Like the previous update, the new release brings a darker notification bar and black-based menus, a new virtual keyboard with support for multi-touch input and auto correction, and improved cut-paste functionality.

The company also claims to have resolved several bugs related to charging, SD card mounting, predictive text, call volume, and device recognition on some Windows SP, Vista or 7 systems.

The update is expected to begin arriving on Wednesday. The company late in 2010 promised Gingerbread for the full Optimus One series, however the updates have been slow to arrive.
