Super HD camera sports $8k price
Sony may soon be releasing a high performance NEX-based camera for the professional videography market. EOSHD quotes sources as saying the company will be unveiling the NEX FS700 at the NAB 2012 conference next month. The camera can purportedly record at 4K resolution with a price point of $8,000.
It would be an update for Sony's FS100 pro camera. The eight-megapixel, Super35mm Exmor HD CMOS sensor could both adapt to the new resolution as well as allow more more advanced slow motion capture of up to 960 frames per second.
Going to 4K, which is about four times the effective resolution of 1080p, would put the camera in competition with much more expensive cameras. RED's Scarlet-X and Epic-X cameras can both manage at least these resolutions. At $8,000, though, the rumored price point of the FS700 is both less expensive than these and comes in at about one-half of the price of the Canon C300, which can only record 1080p.
