HTC One series hits Germany early

HTC's One S and One X have gone on sale early in Europe. Dual discoveries stemming from BestBoyZ and The Unwired have shown that Germany's Media Markt is carrying either Android 4.0 phone days ahead of the official April 2 date. The sales are cleared by HTC, although prices are slightly higher for the One S at 519 euros (normally 499) and lower for the One X at 579 euros (instead of 599).

The One X as the flagship has a quad-core Tegra 3, a 4.7-inch screen with a 720p resolution, an eight-megapixel back camera, and a front 1.3-megapixel camera. One S owners get a smaller 4.3-inch, 540x960 screen, although its dual-core Snapdragon S4 chip is often close to the Tegra in performance. Its only other major sacrifice is a VGA front camera.

All of them have Android 4.0 with Sense 4.0, which pares back much of the heavy software layer but adds extras like its high-speed, more advanced ImageSense camera app upgrades.

Americans should get their phones weeks later. T-Mobile might be first with a One S on April 22. The One X could appear at AT&T on May 6, and the Sprint version of the same phone could show on June 6. Both One X versions for the US should use the Snapdragon S4 instead of a Tegra 3, but will get 4G LTE in the process.
