AMD's Embedded G-Series chips get real-time OS support

updated 07:00 pm EDT, Wed March 28, 2012

Offers quick reliable RTOS for industrial usage

AMD has integrated a real-time operating system (RTOS) into its G-Series processors. The chip maker is now loading Green Hill's Integrity OS onto the platform. The embedded system can be used in a variety of tasks where space and power are at a preimuum including TV set-top boxes and other home devices, industrial control systems, networking, the military, and medicine.

AMD's G-series combines a low-power CPU with a discrete graphics core onto a single form-factor. The RTOS provides the intelligence upon which application specific code can be written. The Integrity OS has integrated middleware functionality that includes support for USB, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and IP routing and switching. It's used in devices such as printers, network routers, and cars, which often have to handle actions immediately and with a minimum of overhead.
