Facebook fends off lawsuit with Harvard e-mails

Facebook has filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit against it armed with copies of e-mails sent between the plaintiff and Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg from their Harvard days. Wood-pellet salesman Paul Ceglia sued Zuckerberg for 50 percent of his stake in the world's largest social network, claiming a contract was made between him and Zuckerberg. The Facebook motion stated that said contract was a forgery, as are the e-mails, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The 200 e-mails Facebook presented were obtained from Harvard University's server, and they don't match up with Ceglia's submitted copies. Facebook stated that the contract "is forged, the purported emails [sic] are fabrications, and this entire lawsuit is a fraud and a lie."

The lawsuit was originally filed in July of 2010, claiming the contract effectively made Ceglia Facebook's first investor. The plaintiff's lawyers haven't yet resonded to Facebook's motion.

Zuckerberg settled with former Harvard classmates Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss and Divrya Narendra in 2008 in another series of lawsuits for allegedly profiting off of some of their idea. They later tried to come back for more after Facebook grew much larger, but were rejected.
