MOG slips out iPad-native music app

MOG for iPad gets quiet intro

On the heels of its Windows app, MOG has quietly posted a native iPad app (App Store). Although marked as 2.0.2, the previously unavailable app is a significant rethink with a more visual interface with pop-overs that expand options for playing, sharing, and queuing. Going into an album, artist or other broader category provides a more detailed exploration of the content while keeping always-available playback controls.

As with the iPhone-sized version, its centerpiece is higher quality 320Kbps streaming along with the option of downloading tracks to cache them for offline use. Listeners can also simply opt for personally radio-style listening instead. Those with an Apple TV or some wireless speakers can push audio through AirPlay.

The app works with any current iPad, although it demands iOS 5.0 or newer and isn't a universal title. Subscriptions normally cost $10 per month and give unlimited access to the catalog.

All the app expansion comes just as MOG is rumored to have been acquired by Beats Audio on behalf of HTC. The service would serve Android and Windows Phone devices, although putting it under Beats rather than HTC directly could mean that iOS apps persist afterwards.
