Updates finally downloadable without USB cable
Apple may be experiencing an unusually high adoption rate for iOS 5.1, according to data collected by app developer David Smith. After tracking iOS version statistics for downloads of his app Audiobooks, Smith noticed that more than half of the devices that were eligible for the iOS 5.1 over-the-air update had made the jump within five days.
Audiobooks is a universal app that can be downloaded for the iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, and is claimed to achieve weekly download volume around 100,000 for the paid and free variants.
The data showed a continuing trend for iOS 5.1 updates, which were installed within 15 days on 77 percent of devices compatible with over-the-air updates. When taking into account the devices that were ineligible for the OTA release, iOS 5.1 was still installed on 61 percent of devices.
Apple had been criticized for requiring users to directly connect devices to a computer via USB for update installation, though iOS 5.0 addressed the shortcoming. [via MacRumors]

Bug fixes.
I think that's why users are updating. Especially iPod touch owners. iOS5 on a touch is proving to be less than a satisfactory experience for some.
