Mountain Lion preview hints at Retina-equipped Macs

Glitch shows double-sized art

Images in the current developer preview of OS X Mountain Lion reinforce the notion that Apple is working on Macs with Retina displays, notes Ars Technica. A source for the site points out that double-sized images have been showing up accidentally, for instance in the form of the audio chat icon in Messages. Similar images in iOS foreshadowed the arrival of the Retina-equipped third-gen iPad.

The latest versions of OS X Lion already incorporate "HiDPI" display modes, as well as double-sized interface graphics for objects like cursors. Apple is scheduled to launch Mountain Lion sometime this summer; its debut could be paired with the introduction of new MacBook Airs or Pros equipped with sharper displays. New Pros could borrow design cues from the Air, slimming down and dropping their optical drives.

it could just be that its easier for CM and such to keep the graphics from the iOS parts of OS X together with the OS X graphics....

Or the ML team are a bunch of pranksters who threw in a few 'easter eggs' to let the idiot geekheads that apparently have nothing better to do than run low-level searching routines on OS installs looking for secrets, or examining each and every graphic looking for 'hints' of future products.

Nah, that can't be it. More likely that Apple's programming team are a bunch of idiots and don't know how to secret future enhancement stuff out of the software so it ruins the surprise. Yeah, that's it!
