Purported Samsung GT-i9300 spotted, may be Galaxy S III

Samsung GT-9300 gets first claimed photo

Samsung's often hinted-at but still vague GT-i9300 may have been spotted in a new leak. Despite early suspicions that it would be a tablet, what Phone Arena was given in photos would be a 2012-era smartphone, complete with 'lips' to avoid accusations of copying Apple. It would be the first non-Nexus Samsung phone built for Android 4.0 and would drop the hardware navigation buttons in favor of all touch, likely bumping up the screen size beyond 4.3 inches on the Galaxy S II.

As shown, the software gets some credibility by appearing to be a conspicuous blend of Android 4.0 with Samsung's TouchWiz layer. The app drawer and bottom navigation are founded on the stock Google experience, but the icons and background are clearly Samsung-made. Some Galaxy Note apps that aren't dependent on the pen are present as well, such as S Memo and S Planner.

While not necessarily the Galaxy S III, the i9300 name shown in the profile would line up with the naming scheme used in the past, where the i9000 was the original Galaxy S and the i9100 was the Galaxy S II. Samsung effectively skipped the i9200, although the Galaxy Nexus is considered the i9250.

The device could be a fake given that a number of known fake or disputed renders have been showing up. However, the relatively unique design and software mix give it more support than others in the past.
