Sony 2012 TVs reach stores

updated 06:40 pm EDT, Thu March 15, 2012

Ships 6 models from new line-up

Following on the unveiling of its 2012 line of televisions at CES in January, Sony has added six of the models to its available lineup. At the entry point, the company will begin shipping 40-and 46-inch members of its BX450 series. At the mid-range, it has released 40-, 46-, and 55-inch EX640 models, while at the top end, it is now shipping the 55-inch HX750 to complement its smaller 46-inch sibling already on the market.

The BX450 series features 60Hz CCFL-backlit 1080p displays, each with two USB inputs, and two HDMI inputs. The EX640 models add Wi-Fi connectivity through an external dongle and upgrades the screen with edge-lit LEDs, and Sony's segment-based Motionflow XR 240 (240Hz) processing. The top-of-the-line HX750 integrates 3D and full internet connectivity. MotionFlow, which helps to smooth out action scenes, uses Sony's step-up XR 480 processing (480Hz). The TV likewise uses the company's two-core X-Reality Pro optical engine to handle the signal, reducing noise and restoring details. The screen itself is protected by Gorilla Glass.

The 40-inch and 46-inch BX450 models are priced at $500 and $700 respectively. The EX640 series ranges in price from $900 to $1,700. The 55-inch HX750 sports a $2,100 price tag.
