Leica invites news organizations to Berlin in May

Leica CEO Alfred Schopf has sent out invites for an event on May 10 and 11 in Berlin, SteveHuffPhoto found. While there are no specifics in the invite (an image of which is embedded below), promised is a "whole range of product launches." Educated guesses, along with the date, suggest an M10 camera will be unveiled, while an update to the X1 is also expected.

Steve Huff was told by Leica's Stephen Daniel that the company aims to release a new camera update to the M and X line every three years, and this conversation reportedly took place nearly three years ago.

The M10 specs should obviously improve upon those of the current M9, which will be succeeded. The M9 sports an 18MP full-frame CCD sensor that's sized at 24x36mm, and Leica claims is the smallest full-frame camera to date. The camera costs the equivalent of about $8,000, so the M10 will likely cost at least that much as well.
